Candidate Training Series

There is so much information out there these days that it can be difficult to sift through the noise, separate political rhetoric from fact, and understand what is real and what Vermonters actually care about. The result is that the vocal extremes at either end of the political spectrum have controlled the narrative despite most Vermonters wanting moderate and reasonable policy solutions. In fact, 44% of Vermonters identify as independent voters and don't affiliate with either major party. This tells us that we need to lift up voices in our political discourse that are moderate, thoughtful, and consider all viewpoints.

To this end, Campaign for Vermont is launching a candidate training series to arm moderate candidates, of all political affiliations, with the information and tools to appeal to Vermont voters and offer thoughtful policy solutions. There is no screening process, and all political candidates are welcome so long as they are respectful of others and bring open minds. There will be a zero-tolerance policy for name-calling or statements that deride other individuals or groups.

Campaign for Vermont does not endorse political candidates, even those that participate in the training program. However, those that participate will receive some bonus content:

  • After attending three sessions, candidates will receive a free campaign calendar that maps out important community events and campaign strategies.
  • After attending 6 sessions, candidates will get exclusive access to our public opinion polling data that we will review in-depth in session 8 as well as a cocktail reception with potential donors.
  • Those that complete all 8 sessions will be invited to do a 30-minute interview on the public access TV show that we host on ORCA media.

We believe in Vermont and we believe that good ideas can come from anywhere. However, too often these ideas are snuffed out by industry groups, corporate donors, and other special interests that often have a stranglehold on policy-makers. We seek to use this program as a tool to push back on these special interests and to bring better solutions to the forefront.
