Ethics Hits Roadblock

Ethics_Roadblock.PNG
Ethics legislation hit a roadblock in the House on Wednesday when Representative David Deen mislead lawmakers about what was contained in S.8. He cautioned lawmakers to resist independent ethics oversight. We pushed back, but we need your help to make sure Vermont enacts meaningful ethics reform!

VT Yankee Decommissioning:
The Public Service Board held a hearing on the NorthStar decommissioning of the Vermont Yankee nuclear powerplant site. The plan proposed by NorthStar could cut the decommissioning time by more than half, allow the site to be redeveloped sooner, and lead to increased economic activity over the next decade. If you missed the hearing this week, we will be live streaming it on our Facebook page tomorrow from 7-8:30pm.

Act 46:
A bill that would relax requirements for Act 46 and create more flexibility for districts trying to comply with the law passed the Senate easily last month. It met initial resistance in the House, but a public hearing on Tuesday showed overwhelming support for going even further. We have posted a live stream of the hearing: click here.

$350 Million in Savings:
We have kicked off a crowd funding campaign to support our legislative action around the report we released last month about Re-Energizing Vermont's Public Education System. We've shared the report with over 30,000 people on social media already. Join the effort!
